2 Samuel 9 (NIV)

David and Mephibosheth
1 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
2 Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?”
“At your service,” he replied.……Continue Reading

  1. David seeks out any relatives of Saul. David loved Jonathan very much, in fact he never even attempted to kill Saul despite many opportunities. But per the normal behavior of leaders taking over at this time, Mephibosheth was in hiding assuming that as part of Saul’s family this new leader would want him dead. Imagine instead such blessing David poured out over Mephibosheth who didn’t even feel worthy. He had been living in someone else’s house, poor, and lame in both feet. This reminds me of how we come to God, broken, desperate, scared, and undeserving, and yet He lavishes love and blessing on us anyway!

  2. This is one of my favorite accounts in the Bible and yes, Kelly, what a great picture of what God does for us through Jesus. It definitely has a prodigal son feel, but M did nothing wrong to be in the position he is in. I believe Lo Debar itself is a descriptive word of a dismal place. So to be brought from that to the king’s palace is a great picture of how far God is willing to reach to get us. And yet M would have to wonder what David’s intent was. So for him to go from I wonder what David has called me here for, to I am receiving the inheritance of Saul and people are going to take care of it for me and I will be supplied for for the rest of my life is amazing!!! Sometimes God’s work and Gods blessing turns on a dime like that. We never need to be defined or conditioned by the low places we may find ourselves in. God will always provide a way for us to get ourselves out of it with His help, or He will get us out of it, or He will show us the purpose we are there and therefore find the contentment of glorifying Him in it. In other words, we cannot lose when our focal point is God and His will.

  3. David blesses Mephibosheth the son of his faithful friend Jonathan. What a beautiful story. Despite Mephibosheth’s sad condition
In life, through no fault of his own, David chooses to restore his inheritance, care for his daily sustenance and enlist his family to care for his inheritance.
