Judges 20 (NIV)
The Israelites Punish the Benjamites

Judges 20-21
The Levite tells the story in a way that would most incite the Israelites and does not include the role he or the homeowner played in giving the concubine to the men. We must be careful when communicating that we do not leave out things that make us look bad but rather tell all the details independent how it helps our cause. And yet the far greater evil that was done was done by the men of Gibeah, and so the Benjamites are wrong to support them just because they are family. They should have called them out and made them answer for their evil. We should address truth and behavior in the same way and not show favoritism to people we know better. And it is interesting how God acts here where he supports the Israelites actions, and yet causes their defeat in 2 battles. That is either to set up the Benjamites to think more of themselves and bring success with the strategy on the third day, or the fact that Israel itself is not noble and godly themselves, so for God to not fully support them makes sense. I believe they are also excessive in going to all the Benjamite town’s and destroying them. Showing the mistakes that we can make when we take vengeance in our own hands.
