Reading along with us in 1 Kings? Here’s today’s reading:
1 Kings 7 (NIV)
Solomon Builds His Palace
1 It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace. 2 He built the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon a hundred cubits long, fifty wide and thirty high with four rows of cedar columns supporting trimmed cedar beams. 3 It was roofed with cedar above the beams that rested on the columns—forty-five beams, fifteen to a row.......Continue Reading
Well it took 7 years to build the beautiful temple but I am not sure how I feel about Solomon taking 13 years to build his own palace that was seemingly even fancier than the temple!
1Kings 7: Fabulous! No wonder it took 13 years to build!
I continued in Luke 7 today, revisiting the works of Jesus.
“I tell you, then, the great love she has shown proves that her many sins have been forgiven. But whoever has been forgiven little shows only a little love.””

Solomon went all out trying to honor God and bring glory to Gods kingdom when he built the temple of the Lord
It is certainly interesting that Solomon took longer on his palace than on the temple, but it does seem the temple was more ornate. And as glorious as the building itself was, the different elements, furnishings and objects were stunning as well. What attention to detail was given and all the things cast and molded would have been beautiful and spoke of life, prosperity and the presence and glory of God.
Solomon builds his own house, one for his wife, Pharoah’s daughter, and he has all the bronze furniture made for the temple by a very gifted craftsman, Huram.
