Reading along with us in Romans? Here’s today’s reading:

Romans 3 (ESV)

Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God. 3 What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? 4 By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written,

“That you may be justified in your words,
and prevail when you are judged.”
5 But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.) 6 By no means! For then how could God judge the world? 7 But if through my lie God’s truth abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? 8 And why not do evil that good may come?—as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just… Continue Reading

  1. I’m picturing Paul standing before a crowd of Jews and Gentiles (that’s us, unless you’re Jewish!), preaching this one chapter with BOLDNESS, a boldness born of JOY. Paul told us in Romans 2:5-6 that those who have broken God’s perfect Law and continue to break it (including the secret things – Romans 2:16) are continually storing up wrath for ourselves, a terrible wrath to be poured out when we stand before a holy and righteous God trying to defend and justify ourselves. But here we see that NO one can justify themselves before God (Romans 3:20)! Indeed, it is the law that has made us conscious of just how sinful we are! (Do you not know God’s law? You still have no excuse – He has written it on your heart and in your conscience. Romans 2:14)

We are in an impossible situation! How can we keep a perfect law perfectly, when He sees even our secret selves? We are lawbreakers by nature (Romans 3:23), even in our very best moments.

And now Paul, filled with the inexpressible joy of one rescued while still trembling with the dread of what he has been rescued from, tells us that it is God Himself who has given us the Way of escape! “Run to Jesus, the Savior! Run! Believe and receive the gift of salvation in Christ!”

What have we done to deserve this amazing grace of God? NOTHING!

“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it – the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.” Romans 3:21-25

I’m so glad I read this chapter this morning…I could read it again and again and again. Praise God!

  2. 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith❤️
