Reading along with us in Romans? Here’s today’s reading:

Romans 1 (ESV)

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6 including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,

7 To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you… Continue Reading

  1. Reading in Hebrews 11 this morning. I love Romans though, maybe I will start reading along there as well.

  2. The gospel in one chapter;

    Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities -His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse…

    1:18 – The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness..

    and then His promise … 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first for the Jew, and then for the Gentile….

    Faith … and also a call to obedience, in the context of a deepening and ongoing relationship
    with Him … a visible transformation on the outside as a result of the Spirit’s ongoing work in our
    heart 1:5… Through HIm and for His name’s sake we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

  3. If we need a reminder of what the rejection of God leads to on THIS side of eternity, just read the end of Romans 1:

    “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” Romans 1:28-32

    Those who reject the gospel have no idea they are rejecting not only their own rescue, but the rescue of those they live with and among, and even those they claim to love. The world keeps trying to “fix” these things using man-made philosophies, laws, and even medicine…anything and everything but the one certain remedy — the gospel of Jesus Christ believed and received by a lost sinner!

  4. From vs. 3,” concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, ” we see God clearly yet the world lives like He is not real and the rest of the chapter reveals that
    32Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
