Reading along with us in the first 30 chapters of Psalm? Here’s today’s reading:

Psalm 1 (ESV)

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away… Continue Reading

  1. 3 He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.🌳❤️

  2. Promise upon promise upon promise in this psalm for two groups of people: those who are blessed because their minds and hearts are filled with and stayed on the truths of God’s Word, and those who are destined for destruction because they have rejected the truths of God’s Word. What a startling difference!!

    These warnings come to mind:

“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’ Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.” 1 Corinthians 15:33-34

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Proverbs 13:20

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

And then how blessed are those who are in Christ!

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” Jesus in John 10:10

“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” Psalm 16:11

  3. Interesting progression in the first verse here…walk, stand, sit. All represent a deeper involvement and greater remaining in things that are wicked and opposed to God. And the juxtaposition in verse 2? If our involvement and greater remaining is in God and His word, then what are we rooted in? Not sin or destructive practices. We will be rooted in those things that bring life! Whatever we do will prosper…what a wonderful assurance regardless of what we are facing.

And the wicked come to nothing, both in this life and the next….
