Reading along with us in Psalms? Here’s today’s reading:

Psalm 71 (ESV)

In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
    let me never be put to shame!
In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
    incline your ear to me, and save me!
Be to me a rock of refuge,
    to which I may continually come;
you have given the command to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress..

  1. There are many things in life that unsettle and confuse us. People disappoint us and even hurt us both on purpose and unintentionally. Circumstances are unpredictable in spite of our efforts to control and mange people and things. But through it all and above it all, God stands as a refuge, a place of strength and comfort, one who establishes us in relationship with Him and in truth that helps us define ourselves, others and things accurately. This Psalm reenforces and reminds us of that reality and praises God for it. He is a place of refuge and strength. He is a deliverer and Savior. He makes things right in a world that can be so wrong. He is good and powerful when the world is cruel and evil. When people come against us, He is a place to run to and be established in the truth of who we are and whose we are. He is a place of hope and confidence. He is constant when things and people change. When we feel inadequate, He is always more then adequate and is willing to share His resources and power with us. He is the answer to all of life and is to be praised and exalted for it. We are wise to obey and follow a God so great and good and true. Whether we are young or old, it is right for us to praise Him and thereby remind ourselves of all that He is and has done that makes it right for us to believe, hope and bank our whole lives on Him.

  2. 22 I will also praise you with the harp
    for your faithfulness, O my God;
    I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
    O Holy One of Israel.
    23 My lips will shout for joy,
    when I sing praises to you;
    my soul also, which you have redeemed.
    24 And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,

  3. Psalm 71…… In modern day vernacular The Big Guy in the sky has always got our back, regardless of age or life position!!! Praise the Lord for He is my friend and Loves us all unconditionaliy.

  4. Live goal:

    O God, do not forsake me,
    Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
    Your power to everyone who is to come.

  5. Psalm 71:5-6 (ESV)
    5 For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth. 6 Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.

    These verses are interesting. I wonder how a child before they know God can lean on him. I can only think that a child in the womb is utterly dependent on God to have breath and to come to the point where my praise is continually of you.

    In spite of the trials of life, in spite of being a wonder to others, vs7, and not in a good way, he still chooses to praise and hope in God.
