Psalm 55 (ESV)

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David.

Give ear to my prayer, O God,
    and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!
Attend to me, and answer me;
    I am restless in my complaint and I moan,
because of the noise of the enemy,
    because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me,
    and in anger they bear a grudge against me.

My heart is in anguish within me;
    the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Fear and trembling come upon me,
    and horror overwhelms me.

  2. Last few psalms have some common themes
    Desperation for a right relationship with God
    Also need for God
    Also humility

  3. Powerful presence and provisions in the midst of despair, that’s what I see here. David is in a desperate place. It seems the one attacking him is one who is close to him, one who is conniving and deceiving. Is it Saul or Absalom, most likely the former, but it is even harder to suffer evil from those you expect would do good to us. It happens more often than it should, but God is present to help us deal with the heartache and pain. Even though it would be nice to escape the situation and fly away, that is rarely the right thing to do. But God gives us the capacity to live in the midst of it and find the comfort of His presence as long as we continue to press into Him and develop the relationship and the faith that allows us to depend on Him like this. But what a comfort to know He is available to us in this way.
