Psalm 17 (ESV)

Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry!
Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
2 From your presence let my vindication come!
Let your eyes behold the right!
3 You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night,
you have tested me, and you will find nothing;
I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
4 With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.

  1. What a privilege it is to be able to hand our enemies over to God and let vengeance be in His hands and not ours. He knows the right balance of justice and mercy to show. And David provides a good pattern here for us to sick God after our enemies. It is also one thing to be asking God for mercy and grace yourself because you too have done wrong, but far better to be in David’s position here to realize he hasn’t done anything wrong. Vindicate me…show me to be right and on your side is his plea.

    And isn’t it a great combination to know you have done right, to send God after your enemies and then just rest in God’s presence and comfort and His regard and love for us. Keep me as the apple of your eye.

    May I be always in a position to apply that combination when dealing with my enemies…
