Proverbs 8 (ESV)

Does not wisdom call?
    Does not understanding raise her voice?
On the heights beside the way,
    at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
    at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
“To you, O men, I call,
    and my cry is to the children of man.
O simple ones, learn prudence;
    O fools, learn sense.
Hear, for I will speak noble things,
    and from my lips will come what is right,
for my mouth will utter truth;
    wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
All the words of my mouth are righteous;
    there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
They are all straight to him who understands,
    and right to those who find knowledge.
10 Take my instruction instead of silver,

  1. 33 Hear instruction and be wise,
    and do not neglect it.
    34 Blessed is the one who listens to me,
    watching daily at my gates,
    waiting beside my doors.
    35 For whoever finds me finds life
    and obtains favor from the Lord,
    36 but he who fails to find me injures himself;

  2. “The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old;
    I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be.”

    Amazing personification of wisdom.

  3. Wisdom is calling out. It is readily available to those who seek it. It is not a respecter of persons and is available to all independent of status, intelligence or ability. It brings good character, good decisions and good planning. It centers us in God’s will and provides all the blessings that come with the knowledge of Him and His ways. No wonder it is pictured as being more valuable than anything on this earth! Yet how few have it….

    And what a great picture of wisdom being there before creation and in it. Before creation because God is the source of wisdom so He had it before He made anything. And in creation helping God create. (Do understand that wisdom is personified here in Proverbs to make the lessons David/Solomon have about it more personal. But naturally wisdom is not a person, it is a character trait based in the applied knowledge that comes from God as well as that applied knowledge as well). But how wise is God’s creation? How much does it all make sense in what He has established in the universe and more specifically on this earth and then more specifically in plants and animals and physical creation and then more specifically in our bodies and minds? Yes He was certainly functioning in wisdom when He did all this! And glory to His name for it!!!
