Philippians 4 (NIV)

Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity
1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!
2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life...........Continue Reading

  1. Keep our minds fixed on the Lord, good things, righteous things, and we will have no need to be anxious or worried. God provides as He provided for Paul. Imagine the power in Paul’s words that he can be content anywhere! For him that says a lot for he had experienced highs and lows many of us will not see and yet he was content knowing God was with him. Even as he writes this in prison facing possible death his contentment and sincere joy comes through in every word. Such a great reminder for when we get frustrated with our situations and how easily that can take our eyes away from God rather than fix our eyes on Him knowing He is with us in the good and bad.

  2. How could someone in jail waiting for Roman trial day rejoice. I look at my circumstances and say frustrated. The ultimate joy comes from the truth that the God of this universe lives inside us. Along with Jesus and the spirit of truth. Paul teaches us the path to peace. First pray. And when we pray. Thank God that we have the privilege to converse with him and thank him for being with us and listening. Adoration comes to mind. Right praying. Right thinking and right living will give us supernatural peace. I love waking up in the middle of the night and speaking the name and peace overflows in my mind and heart. The peace of God comes from knowing he is in FULL CONTROL. Of all things. We have security in his kingdom. Our destiny is set. And in the mean time All things in our lives are protected by God. And Paul tells us how to think. On what is true. Lovely admirable. Lots of voices in our mind. But let’s listen to the voice of Truth. Not always easy. We have an enemy that loves to frustrate

  3. The rest of this chapter Paul has learned to be content in life no matter what comes his way. His whole life was geared from Gods point of view. Not what he desired. He was totally concentrated on the eternal. Therefore if he was in need his secret was to draw his power from Jesus. We must learn to rely on Gods promises and Jesus power to help us be content!! I’m still learning. Trust is the key!!

  4. Philippians 4 such great words to live by rejoice always I say rejoice then he gives us how the Lord is near and we don’t need to be anxious about anything, remember to bring your prayers and requests before the Lord and then you have the Peace of God is there anything better. I am learning to be content with whatever the circumstances are. Our God will meet all of our needs!

  5. This is such a powerful chapter with so may principles to live by. First to stand firm in the Lord because we are citizens of heaven and we know that one day Jesus will return and bring everything under his control and will give us glorious bodies. Secondly we see encouragement to resolve differences in the knowledge of Christ and the greater priority of working for the gospel. Thirdly is the instruction to rejoice in the Lord always and to recognize in Him, we can do so. There is always a reason to have joy in spite of the circumstances we find ourselves in. Choosing to rejoice in the Lord is a powerful way to get it. And what better reason to rejoice than what we find fourthly and that is to be freed from anxiety. What a great consolation prayer is to cast our cares on the Lord and receive from Him the peace that passes understanding. And what a powerful dynamic to be able to determine what settles in our minds by choosing what to think. And what a great list we find here of what to occupy our minds with. And what may be the most valuable principle amongst a set of great ones is the whole idea of being content. It is in some ways the consummation and practical expression of everything else: to not need to have more but to be settled in what we do have. It is even better when this permeates every aspect of us…content with possessions, content with relationships, content with position in life, with skills and abilities, etc. It doesn’t mean it is wrong to want or pursue more, but in the pursuing, the lack of the thing does not cause discontentment. I still have the joy and peace referenced earlier. And if this leads us to be generous with people doing ministry, well that’s ok too.

  6. One of my favorite Bible chapters. I have 4:5-8 memorized and cite it to myself often. I would comment more but I am on my phone in an airport and not a fan of texting!
