Joshua 6 (ESV)

Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. 1. Just imagine reading this account for the first time. It is awesome! God’s power unleashed through the obedience of His people. And the people believing that God had a purpose for telling them to do what they did. God will ask us to do some odd things, but the result will be His power unleashed because it needs to be about His effort and not our own.

And I wonder what a site it was from Jericho for them to see the people of Israel and the fighting men walking around the city. They certainly never saw that before! It was a strange strategy. You wonder if at some point they laughed at the foolishness of the whole thing. Well if they did, they stopped when the walls fell down. Think of that when the world does not understand what God calls you to do and they laugh. There will be a time when they won’t be laughing anymore!
