Reading along with us in John? Here’s today’s reading:

John 19 (ESV)

Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. 2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. 3 They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. 4 Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” 5 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!” 6 When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.” 7 The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.” 8 When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid. 9 He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.”… Continue Reading

  1. “When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ‘It is finished,’ and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:30).

This was a very troubling chapter to read this morning. I have a greater sense of His suffering and the pain that was inflicted on Him because of me. It’s beyond my comprehension and at the same time, it drives my adoration and worship of Him.

When Jesus said, “It is finished”, I wondered what the “IT” was that was finished. Using the New King James Study Bible, I compiled a list of “all” the Prophetic Scriptures about Christ, what Prophecies He fulfilled and the verses that show where He fulfilled each.

May all that Christ accomplished draw you ever so close to Him.

  2. April 22, 2016 – I read John’s account of Jesus’ crucifixion today. Interesting that two very prominent Jews, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, take possession of and care for His body after death, and then lay His body in a tomb. Both were fearful of their association with Jesus being discovered before now. Have they lost their fear, before His resurrection? Is this a public declaration of their faith in Him, or is something else going on?
