Isaiah 61 (NIV)

The Year of the Lord’s Favor
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,.........Continue Reading

  1. 11For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations.
This made me think about all we do to plant seeds in the lives of others and what God can do with even the smallest seed. When we witness to someone through our words or even our actions what is left behind in them can grow to glorify God one day.
Working with the youth sometimes you feel like this as well…like we are planting seeds that will grow one day that disciples will go out and make disciples. Only God can create life and cause something to grow where we thought it couldn’t but we still need to serve and plant the seeds.

  2. Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-2a in the Synagogue of Nazareth and said that the scripture was fulfilled in their hearing. What a great expression of all that Jesus would accomplish both in His first coming and His second. What bondage and oppression Jesus came to overcome in a spiritual sense in His death and resurrection and in a physical sense when He establishes His kingdom on the earth. What an expression of what kind of God and Savior He is and the things He is seeking to accomplish. We are wise to believe and follow such a God! He is looking for our best in what He does and He has the power to accomplish it. May it be true of them and us, that others will see that we are a people the Lord has blessed (v9b). And we would then be a blessing to others with all that God has given us on the inside and the outside….

  3. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
