Reading along with us in Isaiah & 2 Kings? Here’s today’s reading:

Isaiah 46 (ESV)

Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus,
    whose right hand I have grasped,
to subdue nations before him
    and to loose the belts of kings,
to open doors before him
    that gates may not be closed:
“I will go before you
    and level the exalted places,
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
    and cut through the bars of iron,
I will give you the treasures of darkness
    and the hoards in secret places,
that you may know that it is I, the Lord,
    the God of Israel, who call you by your name.
For the sake of my servant Jacob,
    and Israel my chosen,
I call you by your name,
    I name you, though you do not know me..

  1. Is 46:3-4 (NIV) Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

    I wish I remembered this verse last week. I stopped by Dunkin Donuts and when the cashier rang up my order I noticed she (without asking me) gave me a senior discount! You might think I would be grateful that she saved me a few pennies but I was incensed. I was … horrified that she would just assume I qualified!

    Reading this portion of Is 46 puts it in perspective however. I’m not as young as I once was (you either, stop laughing at me LOL!) but the same God who upheld me from my birth, who carried me, promised to sustain and rescue me as the hair on my head (what’s left of it) starts to turn grey. Thank you Father for your tender compassion. That register lady at Dunkin saw me as a senior but compared to you I’m still a kid and you who never change promised to always “have my back”. Wow. Amen.

  2. 8 “Remember this and stand firm,
    recall it to mind, you transgressors,
    9 remember the former things of old;
    for I am God, and there is no other;
    I am God, and there is none like me,
    10 declaring the end from the beginning
    and from ancient times things not yet done,
    saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
    and I will accomplish all my purpose,’

  3. Yes who and what will we compare our great God to? He is the one whose plans will come to pass. No one can foil or stop them. So why is it that we resist? Why is it that we continue to pursue our own ways and not express our dependence on Him in all the ways He would desire. May we learn more and more to rest in His care regardless of how old or young we are!

  4. 8 “Remember this and stand firm,
    recall it to mind, you transgressors,
    9 remember the former things of old;
    for I am God, and there is no other;
    I am God, and there is none like me,
    10 declaring the end from the beginning
    and from ancient times things not yet done,
    saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
    and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
