Reading along with us in Galatians? Here’s today’s reading:

Galatians 5 (ESV)

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through loveContinue Reading

  1. 7You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8This persuasion is not from him who calls you.

  2. 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.❤️

  3. 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh

    We do this by having…

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

  4. “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” The flesh has been killed, therefore it has no power over us.

  5. Ah freedom, a commodity we value highly here in the USA. But what is true freedom? It is not external as the world might think, but internal in terms of the peace, joy, confidence, hope and forgiveness that only Jesus can bring. That is the freedom Jesus brings, not a freedom to be or do whatever we want because that does not generate freedom. Freedom is generated through Christ and by the Holy Spirit and then living a life commensurate with what they direct and inspire. What freedom is found in the fruit of the spirit and what bondage is found in the fruit of the sin nature. Their fruit is provided here for us to know the direction our life should take, but also to distinguish between the “voices” in our head. We can ask ourselves “Is this inclination from God or the kingdom of darkness/sin?” Well we can know better based on the fruit that the inclination is based in and the fruit it would generate.

And don’t miss the exclusive nature of the flesh and the Spirit: to be in one is not to be in the other….what nature will I/we live in today?
