Reading along with us in Exodus? Here’s today’s reading:

Exodus 19 (ESV)

On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, 3 while Moses went up to God. The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”

7 So Moses came and called the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the Lord had commanded him. 8 All the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” And Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord. 9 And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever… Continue Reading

  1. Not sure why it’s not recognizing me so I can comment on chapter 18, so I’ll just leave a brief comment here. Chapter 18 is a good reminder for us to be teachable, open to others counsel and not just set in our ways like how we have always done it being the only way it can or should be done. It also shows the value of delegation which always involves giving up a measure of control as well as trusting the abilities and talents of others. How important it is in all aspects of life including the church. I am soooo grateful to all those who serve at LHCC and partner together for the glory of God and the gospel of His Christ!

And what an incredible chapter the 19th one of Exodus is! Do verses 4-7 above hit you between your eyes like they do mine? What an incredible promise God makes! What an incredible value He puts on His people and how special it is to be called His own. And how can we not be struck by the people’s promise to follow God, particularly in light of our study in the book of Numbers. I am sure they meant it here, but how lacking is their follow through. But it sounds familiar doesn’t it? Unfortunately we do the same! May we resist such a temptation and not only bask in the unconditional acceptance and love we have through Christ but also follow in a way that reveals the depth of conviction we have toward a God who is so great as well as the depth of appreciation for all that He has done!!!

And oh to be at Sinai!!! Can you imagine what it was like to see the power and glory of God reflected on the mountain? How fearful and awe inspiring. It’s no wonder God required them to consecrate themselves and recognize the sanctified nature of that place and that time! We are blessed that God is willing to manifest Himself to us so can believe Him and know Him!!
