Acts 6 (NIV)

The Choosing of the Seven
1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”.............Continue Reading

  1. Exciting to see the number of people following Jesus and listening and obeying His teachings increasing in every chapter and now even priests are choosing to believe!
Typical that when people can’t find fault they sometimes just make things up and because they had such fault finding fault in Stephen they spread lies to try to stop his teachings and sharing of the Word.
10But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.
Amen! God was with Stephen as He is with us!

  2. Conflict is a normal part of life as people with different personalities and perspectives interact with each other. It is important that we handle conflict in a godly way and apply all the resources we have in Christ to do so. Having people with authority in place to play a role in it helps too. The passage also reenforces the importance of division of responsibility. It is great that these people being known, and having wisdom and the Holy Spirit is highlighted as well as the people being pleased by the selection. And handling conflict well can lead to people recognizing the power of Christ within us and recognizing their need for Him. And the message of Christ does permeate every strata of society as the truth of His being, teaching and sacrifice touches hearts and minds. And yet it is amazing the ends people will go to discredit the message and those who deliver it. And when they can’t come up with anything to validate their rejection of it, they get upset and make things up. How wonderful it is when the presence of Christ and the Spirit within us shines through in spite of what others are doing to us. It just becomes a further affirmation of the greater value that is found in Jesus than what is found outside of Him.

  3. Men are chosen to serve.

Stephen is full of the HS and power, and some from another synagogue decide to tell lies about him…..or perhaps they were twisted truths.
