1 Samuel 10 (NIV)

1Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, “Has not the Lord anointed you ruler over his inheritance? 2 When you leave me today, you will meet two men near Rachel’s tomb, at Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The donkeys you set out to look for have been found. And now your father has stopped thinking about them and is worried about you. 1. Saul is still humble in his acceptance of this role as king but he recognizes the power God has to use even someone like him to accomplish His plans.
Not surprising that some people would be doubtful. It happens even in our own lives that when we make changes for the Lord the ones that knew us before may doubt our sincerity or even our longevity to keep those changes as part of our life but we know that when we surrender to the power of God, ALL things are made new and ALL things are possible.

  2. What a great beginning to what will become a disastrous rule. It is neat how detailed Samuel is with what will happen to Saul through what God has revealed to him. It made me think how nice it would be if our path could be laid out so clearly. It also confronts me with what I may do that keeps things from being so clear while accepting that God chooses the means and the level of revelation to us. May we do what we can to be as open as we can be for God’s direction. He is certainly doing something special for Saul and providing a good start for him being introduced as Israel’s king. It is also neat that Saul is able to prophesy amongst the prophets. And Kelly’s point above is well taken. Those who doubt Saul are form his own town….sometimes the ones who know us best believe in us least….

  3. I always think of Saul’s mistakes and forget the account of the beginning of his appointment by God.

“Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.”
